They say never work with children or animals, but nobody warned us about holidaying with them, which is a whole different kind of chaos. The good news? Spring school holidays are here, and these family-friendly stays between the Gold Coast and Yamba have figured out how to make room for everyone: kids who need space to run, dogs who need somewhere to flop after a long walk, and parents who’d quite like a holiday too. Pack the bags, pack the puppy bed, and let the fun begin!
NOVOTEL SURFERS PARADISE
Big city buzz, kids and paws very much welcome. Novotel Surfers Paradise’s family rooms sleep the whole crew comfortably, and the four-legged member of the family gets their own welcome too — a squishy dog bed, food and water bowls, even a tennis ball waiting on arrival! There’s a grassy patch downstairs for pre-dinner zoomies, and the best bit for picky eaters (kid or canine): both can join you for a meal at BLVD Cafe & Bar, which has a dedicated pet-friendly dining zone. Walk it all off at Appel and Lionel Perry Parks, just five minutes away on leash.
Heads up: pets need to be 20kg or under, and there’s a $50-a-day surcharge.
QT GOLD COAST
If your dog has ever side-eyed a bowl of kibble like it’s beneath them, welcome to their happy place. QT Gold Coast’s Pup Yeah! package comes decked out with a plush CUB orthopaedic memory foam bed, botanical grooming goodies from smith&burton, and hand-baked treats from St Argo. The real showstopper? A dedicated in-room dining menu for pups featuring indulgent options like steak tartare and even bacon ice cream. For families wanting to swap wifi for wildlife, this off-grid cabin stay tucked inside Lamington National Park is pure magic — and one of its six cabins welcomes furry family members too. Each cosy cabin has its own plunge pool, a fire pit for toasting marshmallows and a bottle of bubbles for the grown-ups, plus a bed and bowls supplied for your pet. It’s a working cattle farm, so little ones can spot cows, explore the rainforest and fall asleep to a symphony of frogs and crickets instead of traffic — a proper adventure for kids (and pups) who’d much rather be outside.
Heads up: Dogs should be under 20kg; a $100 cleaning fee applies.
WOODLANDS GLAMPING, TAMBORINE MOUNTAIN GLADES
Camping adventures have had a serious upgrade. Set amongst 114 hectares of rainforest on Tamborine Mountain, Woodlands Glamping is the kind of stay where everyone — kids, parents and pooch — gets spoiled rotten. The family tent sleeps the whole gang and even comes with its own plunge pool, plus a king bed, open-air ensuite shower under the stars and a deck with its own jacuzzi (camping? yes, really!). While the kids tackle the TreeTop Challenge, take on the Adventure Mini Golf course or go fossicking for sparkly Thundereggs nearby, the dog can snooze happily back at camp. Pure rainforest bliss with zero camping-trip compromises — proof that “rustic” and “ridiculously comfortable” can absolutely coexist.

SĒLAH VALLEY ESTATE, TWEED VALLEY
Got a big family? Bring the whole mob. Tucked into 430 acres of rolling hills and rainforest-covered mountains in the heart of the Tweed Valley, Sēlah Valley Estate is the kind of place that makes kids want to put their phones down and just go explore. Cosy pet-friendly Hillside Cabins are perfect for smaller families and their dog, while larger configurations suit the cousins-and-grandparents crowd. Outside, there’s acres of wide-open space to roam, plus The Pavilion — a gorgeous, shared space with a chef’s kitchen, outdoor deck and fire pit — for evenings when everyone gathers together and nobody wants the night to end. Equal parts adventure and proper rest, and only a short drive from Gold Coast Airport.
Heads up: Only the Hillside Cabins are pet-friendly (fees apply) — the larger Creekside Lodge suites are pet-free, so double-check your booking.
INGENIA HOLIDAYS BYRON BAY
Byron in the school holidays can feel like one big game of dodgem cars, but just five minutes out of town, this holiday park is calm, green and brilliantly set up for both kids and pets. Dogs are welcome on the camping sites as well as in the Studio Cabins and 2-Bedroom Standard Villa — plenty of room for the whole family to spread out — and there’s an on-site dog wash and agility park for burning off extra energy. Once everyone’s had a play, dog-friendly Tallow Beach is a short stroll over the dunes, sandy paws and sandy kids guaranteed.
Heads up: Pet spots are subject to availability, and some blackout dates apply, so book ahead.
REFLECTIONS LENNOX HEAD
Right on the edge of tea-toned Lake Ainsworth, Reflections Lennox Head is Byron’s chilled-out cousin — same beautiful coastline, way fewer crowds, and a pace that suits families travelling with little kids (or excitable dogs) just fine. Dogs are welcome in the Deluxe and Economy cabins, plus all powered and unpowered sites, with plenty of cabin configurations to fit the family comfortably. While pups can’t dip a paw in the lake itself, kids certainly can, and there’s an off-leash beach nearby via Pacific Parade for working off pent-up holiday energy. There’s also an on-site dog wash and enclosed run once you’re done with sandy feet and paws.
Heads up: Direct bookings allow up to two dogs per booking.
LAZY DAYS ON SHAWS BAY, EAST BALLINA
Waterfront calm with a side of coastal cool — and yes, the dog’s invited. Lazy Days on Shaws Bay is a little collection of beautifully styled apartments overlooking the ever-changing moods of Shaws Bay, in one of East Ballina’s most loved waterfront pockets. For families, the pet-friendly Seaview apartment is the pick: two bedrooms, open-plan living, a fully equipped kitchen and access to a communal garden and BBQ area — everything you need for a fuss-free few days with kids and a dog in tow. Beaches, cafes and waterfront walking tracks are all moments away, and with bay views from the living room, even the grown-ups might find a space to relax.

BIG4 SALTWATER YAMBA
Yamba is the kind of laid-back coastal town that makes everyone, two legs or four, instantly relax, and BIG4 Saltwater Yamba is the ultimate base-camp for families. Pets are welcome year-round across powered and unpowered sites, plus a growing range of cabins sized for the whole crew — the Banksia and Casuarina cabins even come with a fully enclosed deck, so dinner outside doesn’t mean keeping the leash on. There’s a fully fenced off-leash dog park on-site and a K9000 dog wash for post-beach clean-ups, plus a water park, swimming pool and playground to keep the kids busy from morning to bedtime.
