Family-Friendly Experiences in The Tweed
Looking for family-friendly fun this Spring? Discover fun and unique activities for kids right here on The Tweed. Fill their day with tractor tours, nature trails, aquatic adventures and farmyard fun. Find exciting adventures the whole family will love here:

A WHALE OF A TIME
There’s nothing quite like the collective squeal of delight when a humpback breaches on the horizon. From June to October, watch the annual whale migration unfold up close with Cooly Tweed Cruises (departing Tweed Heads) or Cooly Eco Adventures (departing Chinderah). Pack the binoculars, slip, slop, slap, and get ready for a morning of gentle rocking, salty air and gasps of wonder — these gentle giants have a way of making everyone, big and small, feel like a kid again.
UNDERWATER ENCOUNTERS
Swap the pool for the reef this Spring. Join Watersports Guru for an unforgettable swim with turtles at Cook Island Nature Reserve, a marine wonderland just off Fingal Head. For the teens in the family (15+), Cooly Eco Adventures takes things up a notch with a once-in-a-lifetime swim-with-whales experience running July to September — an absolute bucket-list moment for the older kids who think they’ve seen it all.
TRAILS AND TRACKS

Dust off the bikes and hit the trail. The Tweed section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail runs 24km from Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek, winding through emerald hills and past charming village pit-stops — and it’s suitable for every age and ability, from wobbly training wheels to seasoned little legs. For the thrillseekers in your crew, the pump track at Uki Mountain Bike Park delivers jumps, berms and bragging rights. Prefer the coast? BYO or hire bikes and roll along the scenic pathway from Kingscliff, with the ocean as your soundtrack the whole way.
FARM FUN
Get up close with the fun and unusual at Tropical Fruit World, where a tractor-led tour of the 500-acre farm comes complete with a fauna park, a boat cruise and a tasting plate bursting with exotic fruits you won’t find in the supermarket. Or head inland for a day pass to Hosanna Farmstay, where wholesome country hospitality awaits — think animal feeding, an old-fashioned waterslide and a cafe to refuel the troops before round two.
ADVENTURES ON THE RIVER

See The Tweed from an entirely different angle — from the water. Hop aboard an eco-certified cruise with Tweed Eco Cruises for hands-on yabby pumping and fishing, or try your hand at crab trapping followed by a feast of fresh local seafood on a Catch-A-Crab tour. For a slower, story-rich journey, Tweed Escapes shares the region’s history and landscapes, while a self-captained Berger BBQ Boat lets you choose your own river adventure at your own pace.
ARTS & CULTURE

Rainy day plans sorted. Pop into Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre for FREE drop-in ArtPlay and ArtMaking sessions during the school holidays, inspired by the gallery’s exhibiting artists. Over at Tweed Regional Museum, the latest exhibition Ritual explores the traditions, gatherings and everyday habits that shape life in the Tweed, with plenty of hands-on activities to keep little hands busy. And at Marine Discovery Centre Hastings Point, kids can dive into the ecosystems beneath our waves through interactive, educational play.
SURF’S UP
Whether you’ve got a budding surfing grom or a nervous first-timer hovering at the water’s edge, book a lesson with In2Surf or Salty Girls Surf School and watch them paddle out with confidence — and hopefully ride their very first wave.
