CLIMBING THE WALLS

Ready for a real challenge? Alpine Indoor Climbing is a gamechanger for kids aged 10 and up. With two gyms on the Gold Coast — at Robina and Currumbin — Alpine specialises in bouldering: short, powerful routes tackled without ropes, with thick mats below to catch every tumble. Think of it as the ultimate three-dimensional puzzle. The challenge isn’t just physical. It’s mental.

Every boulder problem is graded from A1 (perfect for first-timers) through to A8 (seriously impressive), so tweens, teens and adults alike can climb at their own pace and track real progress from visit to visit. The focus here is on technique, balance and coordination over brute strength, which means younger climbers can absolutely hold their own on the wall. Routes are refreshed regularly, so there’s always something new to work through, and parents can follow along on socials to find out when a favourite climb is about to come down.

What sets Alpine apart — particularly for older kids finding their footing socially — is the community. Climbers of all levels share tips, cheer each other on, and figure out tricky moves together. Founded in 2019, Alpine was built to give the Gold Coast a place where people of all ages could really connect.

New climbers are well taken care of. The team runs a full safety induction on arrival, walks kids through the grading system, and are always on hand for guidance. Climbing shoes can be hired if needed, and for anyone under 18, a parent or guardian’s signature on the waiver is required. But once that’s sorted, the wall is theirs.

Climbing is one of those rare activities that builds real strength, sharpens focus, and delivers a proper sense of achievement — all while having an absolute blast. And once they’re hooked? They’ll be climbing the walls all winter. In the best possible way!
